Amanda Bear is the Managing Attorney of Children’s Law Center in Lexington, Kentucky as of December 2, 2015. Prior to joining CLC, she spent over ten years with the Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy as a Staff Attorney, Juvenile Specialist, and the Directing Attorney for the Maysville and Nicholasville Trial Offices.
After being threatened with contempt for speaking out against the use of excessive force by police officers against her juvenile client, she received the In Re Gault Award at the 2008 Public Advocacy Annual Conference.
Amanda has experience in both juvenile and adult criminal cases, including complex youthful offender and death penalty cases. While at DPA, she was actively involved in Juvenile Law Education and the training of new attorneys. In addition to her work at DPA, Amanda spent two years as an adjunct professor for Morehead University in both the Sociology and Legal Studies Departments.
A life-long Kentucky resident, she attended Morehead State University as an Undergraduate and received her JD from Chase College of Law. When she isn’t protecting the rights of kids at work, she stays busy taking care of her six energetic kids at home.
