Stand up for gault

In May of 2016, the National Juvenile Defender Center launched a yearlong campaign to commemorate the 50th anniversary of In re Gault, the United States Supreme Court decision that guaranteed a child’s right to a lawyer in juvenile court. Fifty years later, the promise of Gault remains unfulfilled. Through a dual-strategy approach of public awareness and policy reform, we will work to ensure every child has access to skilled, specialized lawyers by 2020
