In 2020, children’s law center (CLC),

in conjunction with the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet, implemented the Opioid Project to specifically serve Northern Kentucky children impacted by substance abuse. The Opioid Project uses a multidisciplinary response by dedicating an attorney and a social worker who work collaboratively to provide holistic and trauma informed services for children. Services include, but are not limited to, legal representation and community service coordination. The goal of this project is to offer this all-encompassing approach to representation of children in order to ensure timely delivery of services, mitigate the likelihood that children are removed from their home of origin, and reduce recidivism and recurrences of child maltreatment within referred families. In addition to the delivery of direct services to children, CLC partners with other community organizations to design and deliver trainings and engage in other advocacy initiatives that seeks to improve the systems that serve children impacted by substance abuse.
